All Cloned Up

2002

Every day there are more reports of scientists isolating specific elements of the human genome, with a similar quantity of column inches going to the ”it’s wrong to play god” argument. These developments have opened up a wealth of material to sci-fi writers and it is the race for human cloning that is the crux of the engaging musical.

Moving at a fast pace, All Cloned Up delves into the questionable world of human cloning as the mad, but weak Professor Eugene Graham tries to clone the perfect wife. Taking a dark detour through murder, treachery and questionable ethics the story is whipped hastily along by a frenetic electro-pop score. Complete with suitable dances, each song serves as the narration to the tale, with the in between dialogue serving more as linkage between the songs than anything else.

This is a dark and devilish tale, which carries a certain Orwellian warning, but don’t be put off as the OTT performances ensure that All Cloned Up is as electric as Rocky Horror and just as camp

5/5
