In hindsight it may not have been the best idea to go out to late night comedy in a pub, as all the local beer monsters are out in force. Fortunately Steve and Phil manage the drunken crowd admirably, but it is all they do competently. They openly admit that they are bereft of talent and there is certainly no evidence to contradict them as they stumble through ill-conceived gags and some terrible impressions.
It would be unfair to say that Phil and Steve don’t have a certain charm – there act is akin to watching two of your mates on a comic roll – but thirty minutes is more than enough of their heavily recycled humour.
It’s unlikely that Phil and Steve are going to have a glittering showbiz career, but if you bump into them in a bar it might be worth listening to them while you wait for your pint.
