Nicotine Nights!

2002

Glamour! Sophistication! Sexual allure! Nicotine Nights! promises all this and more as the gorgeous South African trio take a smoky trip through the ups and downs of quitting the evil cancer sticks.

Posing as a friend driven therapy session Nicotine Nights! makes an attempt to chart the pros of abstaining, but gets heavily bogged down in the immediate benefits of smoking. With tongue firmly in cheek the gold mini skirted trio reveal many home truths about the path to addiction, pausing only briefly to acknowledge the health warnings.

Non-smokers probably won’t understand the girls’ accurate observations, but anyone who has attempted to quit will find themselves quietly giggling as their weaknesses are played out on stage. And this is where Nicotine Nights! falls down.

None of the jokes are laugh out loud funny. There are genuinely humourous moments and great ideas are in abundance, but the delivery is slightly lacking as the trio fail to gel on occasions. This could have been an off night, but the girls probably need a little more practice to realise their full potential. Definitely not one for people in the process of giving up!
