One Man Rant

2002

Alasdair Satchel paints a scene that most of us know too well. Late for work, for a stuck up loathsome employer, his day at the office going from bad to worse, he creates a series of mental diversions.

Kevin, his invisible friend ups and leaves for an impromptu holiday, leaving our overworked and undervalued employee to seek pleasure in junk email, internet porn and a fake identity, becoming blindly infatuated with Jane at the office supplies warehouse. Backfiring, he quits his job and retreats home whereupon he reaffirms his life after a heated conversation with a talking turd.

And this is just a sample of what you can expect from One Man Rant, a solo theatre performance delivered with panache and realism, a welcome diversion from that same everyday life. Alisdair takes us into his existence, backed up with music, mime and vocal effects, and leads us through the office antics of his character as he reaps the rewards of his endeavours for a different day.

If you’re stuck in a rut, you should feel a distinct connection to the message of this performance. If you’re fortunate enough not to be, the puppetry that can be accomplished with a melon, a bunch of bananas and a marker pen has to be seen to be believed.
