The beauty of the Fringe is that it doesn’t have to be serious. Okay, there are lots of inspiring pieces of theatre and brilliantly produced scripted comedies but the nature of the Fringe also allows people to take the piss and have fun with it. All You Ever Wanted… is one such show.
Ripe with dodgy accents, over egged sketches and unplanned, and often idiotic, deviations, this Fringe users guide is a delightful break from the self-importance that often infects other acts. It’s obviously not going to win any awards, as various critics will see it as amateurish, but this deliciously daft trio has done more than enough to make this show worth seeing.
Unfortunately it is not going to be a hit with everyone, as much of the humour only really works if you are a Fringe veteran or an Edinburgh resident and this will ultimately work against them.
There is no doubt that there are more professional and humourous shows on the circuit this year but it’s unlikely that there are any other that are so tongue-in-cheek and openly bitter and twisted about their past Fringe experiences. If nothing else, All You Ever Wanted… might even teach you something new about Edinburgh… or maybe not.
