Dogman

2004

It’s always a little weird going to review children’s shows, as they are aimed at people about twenty years younger than yourself (we’re quite a young staffed publication) but Dogman is a pleasure to watch.

The story is a fairly standard affair, with the inevitable themes of friendship, helping others and responsibility popping in here and there, but is made all the more entertaining for its excellent delivery. The set is bright and colourful, as are all the characters. From the butter-loving Dogman to the cat-stealing Mrs Miseryguts, the entire cast is a delight to watch as they scurry about the stage singing songs and engaging with the audience.

If there were to be any criticisms of this fun little play it would be that the story is maybe a little convoluted and confusing. A young child might blindly accept these errors but it just seems a little odd to have Dogman’s parents on death’s door one second and then jumping up and down after they win a house in New York.

Besides this grown-up’s pretentious grumbling, Dogman is a really enjoyable show and will be enjoyed by kids up to about ten years-old.

4/5
