Our Funny Bones – Gavin & Gavin

2004

Every year at the Fringe there a number of mediocre shows that sell out while other minority gems go unheeded. Puppetry of the Penis is one such example, as is Gavin & Gavin.

There seems to be no real reason why the blonde sisters are so popular but yet they manage to fill the Assembly’s Dining Room in the middle of the afternoon… incredible!

It’s not that the Gavins are bad, as both are competent, confident performers, it’s just that they aren’t very good. There are odd flashes of hilarity (most notably the sibling rivalry and the music video sketch) but in general Our Funny Bones is an insipid, uninspiring affair.

The worst thing about Gavin & Gavin isn’t their questionable White Lightning alter egos or their flaccid show format, it’s that people are paying good money to see them, simply because they’re at the Assembly Rooms and they’ve heard of them, rather than seeing something small and worthwhile.
