Sossy Productions must be beginning to feel as though they’re cursed. Last year they got rave reviews from almost everybody for their Hairline Highlight winning Trick Boxing yet played to tiny audiences and this year heir original venue closed (Wigwam) and their new one hasn’t been publicised. Fortunately this spell of misfortune hasn’t affected their attitude and this husband and wife team have come up with another wonderful show.
Much in the same style as Trick Boxing, Pieces of Eight tells a hastily adapted pirate tale produced for a Hollywood pitch meeting. While the eventual outcome of the story is pretty transparent early on, Sossy’s performance is so enchanting that it is an absolute pleasure to witness the characters getting there in their own time.
To be honest, the script isn’t the strongest part of this production. It is good but it is far outstripped by the couples mesmerising dance routines that slip and glide around the stage at the most appropriate moments.
Like Trick Boxing (which Sossy are also doing this year), Pieces of Eight is being criminally ignored by the Fringe crowd and, quite frankly, you’re the ones missing out!
