Sabotage: In Fine Form

2004

The only thing that this performance lacked was the audience it deserved. From beginning to end, this pair from New Mexico (Shenoah Allen and Mark Chavez respectively) took the audience on a dream trip, creating worlds with the flick of a hand or the twitch of a lip.

They not only have stage presence and chemistry oozing from every pore but they also have a happy knack of being funny as well. It’s no mean feat for two men armed with only a pair of pajamas and a chair each to captivate an audience with flights of fancy for an hour. They move nimbly from sketch to sketch, piecing together a world that is both charmingly childlike and fantastically well observed.

Their physical and verbal impressions display a myriad of characters from feisty old ladies to assassin horses with a curse of telling the truth. In these impressions and character creations they are unsurpassed. They both have a verbal and physical elasticity that would make Jim Carrey weep, (oh and they can act him off any stage too).

However the simple sketch after sketch formula is not enough for these two; they have to bring these disparate skits in to a linear dream like whole. Enter the Haunted House and the culmination of this amazing hour. It’s been a day since I saw them and I’m still smiling. Go and see them now!

5/5
