With nothing more than an empty stage and a handful of props, Spanish duo Angel and Mateo Amieva present an hour-long show of movie parodies.
The show does not have a promising start, and their re-enacting of Sean Connery’s Entrapment, falls in the easy slapstick-type comedy that elicits no response from the public. Likewise, their next sketch, an extract from Harrison Ford’s The Fugitive, feels overlong and, by the end of it, the show seems like it will never pick up.
Fortunately, after these iffy first 10-15 minutes the actors start feeling comfortable with their material, and their movie parodies begin to entertain. Both Angel and Mateo loosen up, and their best stuff comes into action: The Matrix’s Neo fights a 10-inch Ernie Muppet in slow motion; Zorro appears as a sexually deviant super hero in their Mask of the Zorro spoof, and after choosing a girl from the audience to help them with their Ghost set piece, they get the viewers cheering. Most fantastic is the use of props which, without being spectacular, are perfect in their simplicity and usefulness.
The show might not be winning any awards, and you won’t be roaring with laughter, but it is quite enjoyable, and by the end of the show you warm to both actors, who even take the time to go to the exit door to thank your attendance.
