Moonjourney

2005

The Fringe prides itself on the weird and the wonderful and it doesn’t get much stranger than Moonjourney.

This spoof Seventies rock opera follows the trials and tribulations of Triangle, an experimental rock trio, as they quest through the galaxy to try and save Earth from certain destruction. Along the way the trio meet a menagerie of space creatures, including a wonderfully designed space caterpillar, and encounter a bevy of strange experiences that stretch and challenge them.

Moonjourney is a bountiful, colourful experience, as they have managed to capture the essence of Seventies rock operas well, but it is very confusing and disjointed. In fact, there probably isn’t enough LSD in the world to make it make sense but it’s a good ride anyway.

Despite it’s extremely surreal bent, Moonjourney is a lot of fun, though some bits are better than others. It’s defiantly not the best show on at the Pleasance this year but it’s defiantly not the worst.

3/5
