From start to finish this show is vapid, vacuous and verbose… and that’s the point. This is a delightful romp through the murderous intent of a fantastically camp barber towards his wonderfully bigoted mother, which is punctuated by a wonderfully dumb barman with dreams of relocation to Blackpool, an arresting, sexily sluttish Essex girl and the barber’s delightfully hapless assistant.
It’s a fast paced farce with more double entendre and alliteration than you could physically shake a stick at without becoming very hot, sticky and smelly. All the performers are engaging, physically adept and committed. Sometimes too committed - at one stage the assistant actually corpsed after doing a well executed double slap - but this only added to the audience’s enjoyment.
The main thrust of this piece however is the writing, which is simple, slick and effective. It’s a knowing piece and I would advise anyone to go and see it. I defy you not to leave smiling moronically.
