Jump!

2005

In an incredible fusion of martial arts and non-verbal comedy, the Jump performers light up the stage at Assembly Hall. Set against the backdrop of a typical Korean home, the performers play out the not-so-everyday life of a family under the draconian leadership of their grandfather.

From the outset the championship level Tae Kwon Do, Tae Kgye On and gymnastics skills possessed by each member of this extraordinary family is clear. The choreography of the performance is flawless and the precision and timing of the routines done by the family is a phenomenon in itself.

The real testament to the skill of these performers however is the apparent ease with which they walk through their incredibly demanding routines, incorporating classic slapstick comedy seamlessly. Their well-timed, non-verbal comedy transcends cultural boundaries and has audience members from all corners of the globe reeling with laughter.

It must be said however, that even the best slapstick routine can get a bit tiresome after an hour. Fortunately the Jump team manages to keep these lulls to a minimum with great lighting, full utilisation of the performance space and an excellent if somewhat bizarre plot.

Jump is an explosively energetic show and the grand finale is certainly no exception to this with the performers quite literally bouncing off the walls.

With high kicking entertainment suitable for an audience of any age, Jump is a show worth seeing if you enjoy fine slapstick routines or stunning martial arts displays.
