Carey Marx: Marry Me

2005

Marx is a man on a mission and he is quickly running out of time. His task? To find his ideal partner and marry her by the end of the festival. Possibly an impossible mission and what has he to offer the prospective ladies? How about a pushbike?

Pushing forty, the so far unlucky-in-love comic has embarked on a mammoth task of searching the highs and lows of Britain in a desperate bid to find his future bride-to-be. So far, it has been a hectic year for Carey, as he can already boast having some 110 dates up and down the country, largely thanks to various internet dating sites and lonely hearts columns.

Carey’s all too happy to allow the audience to hear some of his, what can only be described as, side-splitting yet cringe-worthy letters and emails in an attempt to woo his potential partners, as well as hearing the often hilarious responses from the various women willing to give poor Carey another shot at the dating game.

Marry Me is, without doubt, an original and entertaining show, which keeps the audience amused throughout the act. He’s even managed to bag himself a book deal for the future posterity of his countless, hilarious dating shenanigans, and fingers crossed, to record the conclusion of his mission: the day he finally meets his perfect woman.

Highlights include Carey’s tale of a ‘romantic’ graveyard picnic and an ingenious Murder Date video - he certainly receives 100% for dating effort!

This is a light-hearted show which encourages audience input, as well as allowing viewers to sit back and have a good old chuckle at Marx’s many dating mishaps. It’s obvious that Carey has a real comic flair and enough charm to keep the audience hooked, so much so that you can’t fail to leave the venue praying he’ll find his future wife and hopefully soon!

4/5
