Andrew Lawrence – How to Butcher Your Loved Ones

2006

Think of a slighter Axl Rose, with looser fitting clothes, a straggly goatee and the vocal mannerisms of an extremely eccentric old English gentleman and this will give you some impression of Andrew Lawrence, both in terms of appearance and vocal technique.

Self-confessed ‘ugly ginger’ from Croydon (convinced that his life is at the expense of one of God’s crueller jokes), Lawrence’s routine takes us on a windy journey, examining the horrors of his life from conception to present day.

Full of obscene jokes about paedophilia, incest and cruelty, mostly directed at the members of his family, the show is not for the easily offended. However, if you like the twisted humour of The League of Gentleman you will feel right at home.

At the start of his career, Lawrence is still finding his feet, and the rambling stories are a bit disjointed. However, the songs, interspersed with Michael Jackson style focus the attention of the audience and get a lot of laughs.

Introducing himself to the audience, Lawrence predicts a career peak by 2009. If you’d like to be able to say, “I saw him before he was famous,” then this is a new talent worth checking out.
