DJ Danny: Music Therapy

2006

DJ Danny makes his zany return to the Pleasance Courtyard, after last year’s self-titled show. This time he has given himself a mission: to make the world a happier and better place through music…or, that failing, at least to help out some of the audience’s problems through the power of mixing, sound bites and rubbishing artists like James Blunt.

The first thing that becomes apparent to the audience is just how utterly likeable DJ Danny really is. Dressed in a velour white Jump suit he tears around the stage delivering his jokes at a thousand miles an hour. The audience can’t help but warm to him and just as well as their involvement, be it dancing like robots, playing musical instruments or doing ‘the Beyonce’ booty shake are a major part of his show.

Also every night will be quite unique as before the show the audience are asked to fill in a survey about their troubles and Danny then w will attempt to sort them out. On this night, a woman was having trouble with both, her fake tan and her mother nagging about her being unemployed. The solution came from rewriting the lyrics of Robbie Williams’ ‘Angels’, which was genius.

Great fun rather than maddeningly funny, but Danny is certainly a show that lift your mood.

3/5
