Little Shop of Horrors

2006

There are many qualities in the Forth Children’s Theatres colourful adaptation of the musical classic little shop of horrors. Perhaps the most striking one is the sheer amount of energy that they exude from the stage.

This energy is rooted in the confidence of a solid production, utilising the most out of the resources available. The stage has pleasant aesthetics, the lighting’s imaginative and vibrant- allowing seamless translation from scene to scene.

The vocals from all the children are outstanding, well pitched and melodious harmonies. The choreography is particularly impressive as it must be a challenge to sing, dance and orientate the props simultaneously. As a result the production radiates with an air of professionalism that other shows could learn from.

The acting deserves a special mention, as well, as there are mature themes and characters to grapple with. However, each of the main actors grasps the nuances of their characters perfectly and synchronises effortlessly. Special mention goes to Becky Martin for her stellar vocals and perfect portrayal of the sweet but broken Audrey, who would have the film’s Ellen Greene, green with envy.

If you are looking for a fun filled few hours and don’t expect Broadway, then go buy your tickets now! I dare you not to leave humming the theme tune.
