The Good Life begins on a surreal note, with Lucy Porter dressed as a carrot. She claims to be sponsored by the British Carrot Growers Association in an effort to fight back against evil corporate sponsorship and, in doing so, become a better person. It all sounds very noble, and Porter herself looks sweet and innocent, so it is something of a surprise that she then goes on to talk about subjects like golden showers and spunk poisoning! The delivery is witty and articulate, and has the packed cabaret bar laughing out loud.
As the show continues, Lucy begins to wonder if it is worth trying to be good. Finally deciding the only way to ensure that people remember you fondly is to write your own eulogy, she ends the show with hers, and the track she has chosen for the lowering of her casket is White Snake’s ‘Here I go Again on my Own’. Sheer Genius!
