The BBC has finally seen sense and welcomed back Doctor Who to our Saturday television schedules. Even more, the show is bigger now than, quite possibly, it ever has been and no one could be happier about this than Toby Hadoke.
Hadoke is a self confessed die hard fan and is something of an expert on all things Doctor Who. He knows every episode by heart and can tell you effortlessly what actors have appeared throughout its seasons. But besides being a Who fan he is also very, very funny and really has the audience charmed from the moment he steps on stage.
He has some great stories to share as he reminisces about his childhood and the constant struggle he had to endure to convince his friends that just because he watched the Doctor instead of football didn’t actually make him gay. But the highlight has to be a venom spewing rant about a chance meeting with Big Brother’s Kate Lawler who dared to suggest that Doctor Who is rubbish.
His stand up routine is poignant and hums with witty observations about the show and his life, and just when he has you giggling loudly he hits you with a brilliantly tender finale concerning his son.
This is a fantastic show but your enjoyment really depends if you know your Tardis from your Time Lords.
