ImMortal by NoFit State Circus is really more of a statement than a title.
The concept is based around the idea of Purgatory, where people explore what it is to be human before moving on to another realm. They are aided on their journeys by the angel Michael, and this is the basis for a series of breathtaking performances that unfold above, beside, around and in front of you.
Trapezes, ropes, silks, tightropes and aerial hoops are all used, along with peoples’ bodies through acrobatics, singing, playing and dancing to produce an amazing show. And what a show it is- astounding strength and controlled movements is visible in the performers, and also a clear passion for their various art forms. They all shine through in their respective individual styles with which they unfold their personal stories.
The live band is a wonderful accompaniment, enhancing the show happily and sometimes thoughtfully as the pieces of boundary pushing performances leave you inspired and awestruck. The ease which each of the acrobats and aerialists displays whilst engaged in their visual intricacies is incredible, belying the reality of how hard they must all train to make it look that easy. When the show ends, you are quite literally, brought back down to earth.
If you see one thing this Festival; let it be this.
