Dusty Limits is Heartless

2006

Dusty Limits begins by explaining that his show is cabaret, not comedy (it is only listed as comedy because the Fringe programme doesn’t have a cabaret section) yet it really is very funny, despite covering weighty subjects including broken hearts, politics, religion and the origins of life. In fact, he blends stand up comedy with cabaret by acting as both the singer and the compare.

He has an amazing voice and his theatrical delivery is perfect, often changing the meaning of the song. For example, “Losing my Mind” becomes about alcohol cravings when sung to a bottle of vodka, and Eleanor Rigby progresses into an up-beat swing number as Dusty pretends to do a line of coke from the piano. Other songs have been cleverly re-worded in Dusty’s risqué manner (special mention goes to “If we could talk to Republicans” in Dr Doolittle style!).

Dusty Limits is a fantastic performer, wickedly witty and with a great voice. “Dusty Limits is Heartless” is definitely worth checking out.
