Coming Through The Rye

2006

Sophie Ramsay is a stunningly attractive young folk singer based in Paris. Her half hour show provides a haven from the hectic life of the Fringe. The tiny theatre in which she performs gives a lovely feeling of intimacy, as if she were performing in your own bedroom. Most of her songs are arranged for guitar, but she performs several of them unaccompanied. She has a clear, soft and youthful voice, and a gift for phrasing.

Ramsay has chosen a selection of songs by Burns, Lady Nairn and Sir Walter Scott amongst others, and gives witty, charming and enthusiastic introductions for those in the audience less well versed in traditional Scots music. She starts with Burns’ ”Comin’ thro’ the Rye”, and ends with a less well known arrangement of ”Auld Lang Syne”. There is even a chance for the audience to join in with Scott’s ”Bonnets of Bonnie Dundee”.

A refreshingly different show to recharge your batteries with.
