Tom Basden is one of those little rare gems you find once in a blue moon during the Fringe and you fall completely in love with. Never speaking a word during his one hour show, Basden delivers more laughs per minute than other stand-up comedians could wish for.
With the help of a PowerPoint presentation and some of the best comedy songs you will ever hear, Basden delivers a perfect act. His repertoire of songs, has the wittiest, most inventive, and catchy lyrics and tunes anyone can come out with, and it has the audience in stitches of laughter for the whole duration of the show. His voice is also incredibly beautiful, making him a perfect singer-songwriter.
Though there might be one or two rotten apples in his 20 odd song list, this are easily forgotten when he comes up with a couple of hilarious love songs (one about a girl with a glass eye, the other about her hypochondriac girlfriend), a clever lyrics re-invention of the Poddington Peas theme tune (dedicated to all the students in the world) or his fantastic I’m Aware That I’m A Werewolf, which brings such laughs from the audience he has to actually stop a minute or two once the song is finished. Accompanying his songs are some drawings which he’s done himself (highlight being his: Where’s Wally’s Grandpa one, where you have to try and spot him in a graveyard) and some random pictures he has found in Google.
There are few acts you can honestly say are perfect, but Tom Basden is one of them. Take a leap of faith, and go see it. You can never go wrong with perfection.
