Tony Lee can boast to having over 5000 sold-out performances and over 29 awards under his belt, so the audiences’ expectation for the show is very high indeed.
Lee is muscular, shaven headed and dressed from head to toe in army camouflage. He begins his routine by confessing to the audience that he once didn’t believe in hypnosis but decided to get into it so he could ‘do special things to my girlfriend’. Throughout this show we get some very funny and slightly disturbing glimpses into what those special things could be. From making every volunteer orgasm on demand, to convincing the males that they have a twelve inch penis or even convincing the female section that their neighbour has just farted but, shall we say, not from their bottoms, Lee gets the audience laughing with each hypnotic act.
For those expecting a darker kind of show from the run of the mill hypnotism performance out there, it’s disappointing to report that despite the title, there really isn’t anything especially unique or imaginative that hasn’t been done before. XXX is consistently rude, but never attempts to push your comfort zone and strangely starts to become quite mundane by the end of it.
Granted, Lee has the audience rolling with laughter at his poor victims, and Lee himself is a very entertaining host who keeps the show sweeping along at a furious pace. But for those who have seen previous hypnotism shows you can’t help a feeling of déjà vu.
