Abigail Burdess

2007

Abigail Burdess (famous for her appearances on “That Mitchell and Webb Look” on TV, she even gets moral support from Robert Webb who makes a surprise visit) is surely one of the funniest comedians to be seen at the Edinburgh fringe this year. Despite obviously suffering from a foot injury and arriving on stage in a wheel chair, rather than get in the way this seems to add to the ferocity of her performance, her stand-up is absolutely first class! Burdess is a naturally funny woman and none of her lines are forced or delivered as though she were reading off a script. She knows she will make you laugh and that is all there is to it!

Her performance while tricky to pinpoint could best be described as ‘zany’, with a multitude of wigs and accents (Cornish, English, Brumy, Eastend, Chinese and even Bart Simpson – complete with puppet) an infectious smile and her many references to a very “interesting” grandmother. Completely unafraid to tackle such controversial as rape and the wearing of the Burkha. This is a woman who never shies away from political incorrectness and though the show isn’t suited to the easily offended for the others this is a wonderful show that will have you giggling all night!

5/5
