Something is rotten in the state of sisterhood and Bea Holland and Samantha Sanns are here to put it right. In an energetic one-hour comic tirade the duo tear through the content of the glossy magazines that even intelligent young women seem so morbidly drawn to. Picking through the purported news content of such publications along with the vapid celebrity culture that appear to be their primary focus, Bea and Samantha don’t hold back.
Their performance is a raucous cocktail of hilarious sketches, brutally honest stand-up and riotously reworked popular songs. You will be left wondering not only why they’re performing in possibly one of the tiniest Fringe venues, but also why you have never even heard of them.
The show is fast-paced, consistently amusing as well as thought provoking, without being too obvious about it. The fearless females at Ladies Monthly are not afraid to laugh at themselves either, so the message of the show does not seem hard-driven. Their critique of the world of media whoring and celebrity schlock is a breath of fresh for those who prefer a dash of substance with their style.
