Lizzie Ropper

2007

It’s amazing what some people will tell you given the chance. Here, distilled for your pleasure, are over a dozen real people’s comments on sex. What they think and desire, their ‘turn ons’ and all manner of graphic and fascinating tales are openly told. Naturally all the boring bits are edited out and what’s left is a Creature-Comforts-in-Soho experience, bizarre and hugely entertaining. Whether to maintain confidentiality or perhaps just to show off a bit, Lizzie Roper acts out all the interviewees. This throws their nuances, ticks, and mannerisms into the spotlight and the overall effect is charming and impressive. This is never overdone, however, and each of the diverse characters seems wholly real.

Of course, it’s filthy. You’re here because you’re a bit of a pervert and can’t wait to hear these hidden strangers dish up the dirt on themselves, their friends, lovers, and the occasional mental patient. You will obviously be indulged. This is not something you want your parents or children to see. The attitudes and anecdotes on display are intense, shameless, sometimes hilarious, and always memorable. Rude and quite brilliant, Lizzie Roper’s Peccadillo Circus comes highly recommended.

4/5
