David Lydon’s new play, TwinSS, is the story of two twins, Ben and Will Dollard, separated at the age of 16. Set during World War II, one twin has gone to work for MI6, the other for the Gestapo where he has risen to the position of Uber-fuhrer, which apparently is more evil than Hitler. Add to this a German double-agent named Fritz who is watching the second brother, and he spends the entire show in pink fishnets and French knickers and… Lost? You are not the only one!
Plot, while of course necessary, is secondary to what this play has in its hands, the great British tradition of being unbelievably camp. Whether it is an ‘I’m free’ or a dirty Sid James laugh that makes you chuckle then you’ll love this show. While it may not be the best written or the slickest show that is out there, a play that is so unashamed in the delivery cannot be criticised.
Great performances all round and a musical number to top it off at the end should leave you smiling if a little bit freaked out by what you’ve just witnessed.
