How can you even begin to praise Stephen K Amos in a way that hasn’t been done a thousand times before? Up there with the Fringe big hitters, Adam Hill and Jason Byrne’s Amos is one of the finest British comedians around and has won a host of comedy awards throughout. He doesn’t disappoint this year either.
From the minute he marches out onto the audience, dressed as a 70’s pimp, he has them eating out of his hands, brilliantly adlibbing material on the spot, he has the charisma that some comedians could never hope to achieve with in a million years. He is a master of comedy timing and never lets up as the audience falls about with laughter. He is really good interacting with the audience, like a posh sixteen year old, who he constantly abuses for more jokes.
Underneath the humour though, he has some very poignant things to say, how as gay black man he was badly treated in the 1970’s and more recently his documentary on homophobia with the Jamaican dance hall stars, like the notorious Elephant man.
Stephen K Amos is a must see. Bold, brilliant and truly hysterical.
