There is one thing you can not say Fiona is afraid of, and that has to be honesty. Her hour long stand-up show has her throwing venomous darts at all her family members, starting with her own mother and finishing with her five kids (of which she might not always remember all their names… or if she left them at the liquor store). With over ten brothers and sisters, and 30-plus cousins, she has a lot of subjects she can mock, and she is not afraid to do so.
Family life has never been so openly dissected, and Fiona sees no problems in telling it like it is, as, it seems, nothing is sacred in her routine. From poking fun at her anorexic sister, being the worst mother and wife in the world (a fact not only she accepts but even rejoices in) or meeting the Pope, O’Loughlin’s words are reciprocated with continuous laughter from the audience. Her close to the bone remarks bring tears to a public who cannot stop giggling away.
Fiona gives no time to breathe though, and she talks at the speed of light, jumping from one story to another one, never leaving the crowds behind, but never letting them rest for a second either. If there is any fault in Fona O’Loughlin’s show, it is certainly this. Fiona needs to relax a bit, let the audience settle down before getting straight into the next big joke, let them enjoy the last punch-line she has just delivered. Her hyper attitude can be somehow uncomfortable, and she may irritate more than amuse at some points.
Nevertheless, when her meeting with the Queen of England is retold, any ‘ifs’ or ‘buts’ the audience have are completely erased. Fiona is a master of comedy, and you will love her sassy remarks. Unless, of course, you are a member of her family…
