According To Jesus

2008

The concept of a comedy show not only based on the return of Jesus but the return of Jesus performing stand up is full of comedy potential. There is a literal treasure trove of warped scenarios and conversations the audience could have with the son of God that would make this something really great.
In this instance however it is sadly not the case. Instead, Jesus introduces himself and proceeds to take us on a rambling comedic tour of humor ranging from jokes about stab vests and call centers through to talking us through a slideshow (the high point in the show) about his misrepresentation in Art.
Jesus lacks the confidence to convey his jokes solidly and with conviction and the whole show seems under rehearsed and lacking in thought.
Despite this the crowd is responsive, which gives Jesus something to work with as his stock line of, ‘where’s the love?’ is repeatedly uttered throughout, a line, only moderately amusing the first time around, and which begins to wear painfully thin after the third or fourth time.
The performance is mercifully quite short at 45 minutes, a shame as this is a nice idea that consistently fails to entertain or delight.
