Plan B’s Parrallel/Parallels explores through dance, music, song and acting the scientific idea that for every reality there is an infinite number of possible realities and every decision that can be made will be made or will have been made elsewhere. If this plot synopsis has you scratching your head don’t worry, you’re not alone. This show is beautiful, stunning and head-spinningly clever to the point of genius. The use of moveable screens, mirrored floors and walls is inspired and enhances the movement exceptionally.
As you enter the auditorium you are asked to chose a side to sit on, this will determine which show you see and no one on either side can guess what the other audience members are watching although the cast and stage are one and the same thereby illustrating even from the outset the point that choices mould life. However, this is also the shows only downfall, to truly understand the piece as a whole you would have to see it twice. This probably defeats the purpose of the idea behind the show but illustrates how as human beings our condition is to have our cake and eat it too.
That said the dancers perform stunningly and the show is highly entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable with comic moments and live music thrown in for good measure.
A spectacular piece of exploration theatre which comes highly recommended.
