Robert Yule is Ms Alexis Van-Airbust, sleezyJet’s crude head air hostess with an aisle-challenging figure. It is a highly interactive show in a very intimate venue. Over the course of the fifty minute flight, the audience shares the full cycle of take-off, an in-flight servicing, and a tough landing. Alexis’s body-double colleagues also make an appearance, and their strong characterisations threaten to outshine her main persona.
The initial meet-and-greet could do with some pulling in, as it takes a while for the show to feel like it has really begun. Gaps and awkwardness in linkages within and between sections of performance, and an over-reliance on breathy “Oh my God” filler catchphrases, leaves the show at times feeling under-polished and lacking cohesion. Yet when Yule hits the rhythm, the audience is engaged and at times roaring with both laughter and outrage. The generous in-flight gifts, “usually served in a glass”, are very appreciatively received. Yule draws some big laughs with likeable physical comedy, a library of cheeky facial expressions, and lightning responses to the occasional live performance curve-ball.
All in all, a good show, if a bit bumpy. Buckle up, we are ready to fly away.
