J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books have been quite the phenomenon throughout the whole world. It was only a matter of time until a parody show made it to the Fringe.
Dan and Jeff walk you through all seven books in seventy minutes. The comedy act has all the necessary ingredients to please the kids: men talking at the top of their lungs, exaggerated arm movements, face slaps between the comedians, ridiculous costumes, a puppet dragon and a water gun. Two fast paced descriptions and a PowerPoint presentation (Rowling’s route to a right good read) cover the first three books in the series. The crowd is then given the chance to play a game of Quidditch. This becomes the turn over point in which the cast seem to remember that children are not the only ones watching them. A few jokes involving topics such as Facebook’s status and Daniel Radcliffe’s play Equus win the laughter from the adults in the audience.
The second half of the act has a much better feel to it for everyone. The jokes suddenly seem fresh and original, and the ending is a definite must-see.
All in all, a good laugh for young (and not so young) Potter fans.
