Let’s get something straight, Circus Oz doesn’t have any new tricks, any new stunts that you haven’t seen before in a Fringe show of these characteristics. In saying that, though, they are amazingly good at what they do and, though it may be over familiar, you have not seen them perform in such a fun way.
That’s their main selling point, the tomfoolery with which they present each act, wanting not only to amuse and entertain the public, but enjoy what they are doing themselves. All the performers are a blast to watch whenever they are on stage, and their stunts have you with your mouth half open in awe, throughout the show.
Their strength is enviously astounding, and you can not but wish you could do a quarter of what these men and women are capable of. All audience’s eyes are staring, without blinking, whenever they are on stage performing, may this be at the start, when they all jump, glide, walk upwards, stand or horizontal balancing on a gigantic pole: or whenever they are executing double and triple somersaults, mid air splits and backward flips on a trampoline. These guys know what they are capable of, and they never falter.
Since this show is also for kids, there are some minor segments dedicated to them, which do not sit completely well with the rest of the show, but do add some comedy value to the whole set.
Happy 30th Birthday, Circus Oz, may the next 30 be as joyous as these ones.
