After sell out shows in previous years, Craig Hill has moved venue and changed the format of his show slightly. These changes do little except disappoint.
Craig Hill has a gift for audience interaction and has used it to great effect in previous years as a lead into his comedy routine. This year it pretty much is the show, and we don’t get to see Craig at his best as a result. Although parts of the banter are funny, there are parts which are only funny to the group involved and other moments are just uncomfortable. Overall, it feels like it is a warm up act that drags on too long. The highlights of the show are anecdotes which have been used in last year’s show which, again, is disappointing from a comedian who has previously been brilliant.
Knowing that audience interaction makes up a large part of the show you may be tempted to sit in the balcony … a word of warning – the stools at the front of the balcony are too low to be able to see over the railing when you are sitting down. Fringe venue management at its best!
Craig Hill Makes Your Whole Week is an amusing enough show, but if you have seen Craig Hill before it may be a bit of a let down in comparison.
