It is a real joy when you go to a show where you know nothing about it, and end up leaving with a grin in your face and knowing you have just seen on of the best offering this year.
… And Other Stories is a bunch of unrelated sketches, performed by a cast of six or seven young and talented actors. Durham Revue’s new comedy show is fast, fun and inventive; and it has the whole audience roaring with laughter throughout the whole hour.
As with all sketch shows, some of the segments work and some don’t, but in this case they have a rate of 98% hits their intended mark. This is due, not only, to some fantastic writing, but also to the fact that all actors are so likeable and charming.
Durham Revue group open the show with a meeting between two Mr Men characters, setting the mood for the rest of the performance. Their office workers sketches are a real hoot, and the re-enacting of Sigmund Freud childhood is pure genius. Monopoli, Tintin, superheroes… they all have a hilarious segment in the act. And the mime’s diary sketch leaves the whole audience without breath after all those laughs.
… And Other Stories is impressively good, a sequel come Fringe 2009 should be a must.
