Transgression

2008

The C Soco urban garden is a fun venue, complete with a sand filled beach, food stalls and bar, all set outside. No doubt C Venues newest site seemed like a fantastic idea at the time but no one could have predicted just how wet this Fringe was going to be. Unperturbed by the poor weather Transgression is performing every night with a host of skate boarders, unicyclists, BMXers and break-dancer who make the most out of the stages huge skating ramps.
With a simple musical backing track and a compere to keep the show flowing, this is a refreshing change from your normal Fringe show. Devoid of any pomp, this is a fat free, stripped bare production where the performers get in, make their mark and get out.
In order for this style to work the tricks have got to be good, but as the show goes on the tricks aren’t just good, they are incredible! The tricks are of the highest order and with some impressive jumps, flips and a fair few near misses the audience are totally in awe, none more so than the five volunteers who are selected to lie on the floor as a teenager on a unicycle leaps over them and makes it with an inch to spare.
Filled with more ‘wow’ moments than you could even begin to count, this is a fantastic show that only suffers from some missed opportunities. As a vehicle for the performers to show what they can do it is unquestionably good but with some creative lighting and effects or even some kind of story to gel it all together into a proper Fringe production this could be a Highlight.
