Aequus

2008

This group of dancers really have a raw talent, something very hard to find in a small company during the Fringe festival. Their technique and execution of movement is truly an art in itself. It is very easy to see how much passion each of these artists have as they flow over the stage so gracefully and with so much ease. Each one of them has a different way of moving, and they all work perfectly well together, with great spatial awareness and timing.
In this production they combine two very different dance styles together, Capoeira and contemporary, and it is an absolute pleasure to watch. The only thing wrong with this performance is that it should be put on a bigger stage and bigger theatres all around the world for people to see this absolute masterpiece.
Brazilian born Jean Abreu has a clear view of what he wants to achieve, but, in this piece, the execution is the greatest achievement. Jean is one of the up and coming choreographers of today and has a vision for dance that is truly spectacular! He is a complete genius in his own right and as has clearly worked hard to get this piece perfect. This performance should be seen not only by those with an interest in dance, but by everyone in the Fringe.
