The Fringe is inundated with big comedy names that come every year to Edinburgh to do their show. It is the big stars like Rhod Gilbert, Adam Hills or Jason Byrne which the public tend to go see, knowing what they are paying for, and as such, they would miss amazingly clever, perfectly delivered comedy such as Kerry Godliman’s. Their loss, really, since Godliman is such a blast of fresh air, a perfect blend of stand up routine and on the spot jokes, that missing her act is, without a doubt would be a horrible error.
Godliman is not, at all, what you expect. She shouldn’t be a rising star, she should be headlining big venues. She easily makes the audience laugh during the whole hour show, and the only moment the crowd stop laughing is when she exists the stage. Her jokes are based on every day issues like bad restaurants, relationships, friends… and though these subjects might seem a bit mundane, she brings the whole house down, howling with laughter by her insights and humour.
She has such an approachable persona, her banter with the audience becomes actual conversations, Godliman is able to extract any information she wants, and crack non-insulting jokes at the speed of light.
Kerry Godliman, you are not what we expected, you are so much more than that.
