Presenting a sketch show with a twist, Jonny and Joe return to the Fringe. Their whole act is based on different non related segments which they interlink with the funniest and most original idea of all: it is just them, on stage, doing a sketch, lights turn off, lights go up again, they think of what the next sketch should be, they banter and the next sketch starts. It’s very weird, but work perfectly.
If some of the sketches might fly past audience’s heads, it is the clever writing, fantastic chemistry and comic timing that makes the whole show work. It’s the randomness of their acts that keeps the audience wanting more, the smartness of their ideas. Though the scenes they create are simple, it’s what they do, where they take those scenes where the magic happens. A sketch doesn’t happen because they just forgot what the sketch was. They try it three times, but they just seem not to remember. The laughs from the public resonate through the whole venue. We know there is no real forgotten sketch, but the idea of not remembering is the sketch itself. Extremely simple, amazingly clever.
Both Jonny and Joe are perfect in their characters. Their deadpan faces and quirky anecdotes believable at all times.
It might not be for everyone, but everyone should see them at least once.
