Many small venue shows at the Fringe tend to forget they are in a small space and over do everything to grab the attention of the audience or undersell themselves entirely. Miss Sign On: The Untold Story of a Diva on the Dole, is one of those sparse rarities where everything works in such coherent symbiotic unity that it is difficult to decide where to praise it first. The actors: exemplary, the storyline: superb, the set: ingenious! It is all wonderful.
Miss Sign On tells the story of a West End star who finds herself out of work in an industry plagued by up and coming talented young women desperate for their “Big Break”, where is the work for the seasoned professional? This is definitely more of a show for people in the theatre professional as they manage to send up through the musical interpretation some of the world best written musicals; Tick Tick …. Boom, Cabaret, Sunset Boulevard, Sunday in the Park with George, etc. Also the storyline is more something that theatre professionals can directly relate to but this is not a reason to miss this production. It is funny, emotional, dramatic, exciting, entertaining and definitely a show that we all hope to see on a full blown theatre tour or taking up it’s rightful place in the West End very soon.
