Jarlath return to the Fringe is something not to be missed. His routine is not only funny and has the whole audience tittering all the way through, but it is a blow of optimism, camaraderie and good feelings. And that’s what makes Regan so good, he leaves you in good spirits, with a fresh view of the world, wanting to be a happier person.
Regan is a pro, a great comedian, and knows what works and doesn’t. He improves his own material from show to show, making it edgier (edgier to his own standards, of course) and funnier with each act. He treats his audience not as props in his routine who he can mock and gang on, but as equals, as people with whom to laugh with and not at.
After last year’s fantastic run, Regan has spent a year trying to be more assertive, stand up for himself, and get in shape… He has, obviously, excelled in the three. During this year, he has joined a white collar boxing club (who knows, it’s an Irish thing), tried to level with a car clamper guy (the reason why he couldn’t is exactly what makes Regan the sweetest comedian out there) and devised a mechanism to keep his hunger out of control (and therefore, avoid mood swings).
When Regan is on stage, he lights the whole venue, and one can only hope he returns come Fringe 2009, to impart his wisdom and good intentions amongst us. Jarlath, we need our yearly dose of you.
