Dear Joe Lycett,
In response to your blog entry, I would like to offer you some information on Hairline Magazine, which you inaccurately call a ‘blog’ that no one will read or have heard of. We have been reviewing Edinburgh Fringe shows since 2001, and have a big number of readers who follow us, read us, and know about us. We are not a blog, but a professional independent online magazine, established in the Edinburgh Fringe community, and with daily stats of over 1400 hits.
As for the review itself (feel free to read it here), it is full of praise for the show itself, and though, yes, the reviewer did think that one of the performers wasn’t up to the same standard as the rest, this does not mean that the review should be written off, or that the reviewer is in the wrong. As Editor of Hairline Magazine, I stand by my reviewer (who you wrongly accuse of inadequacy, even though you do not know of his professional background), and would recommend that, in the future, you take reviews for what they are: an opinion over a show in particular, and an instrument from which to take (or not) advice from.
Here at Hairline we hope the best for your show (which let’s not forget, got four stars), and your future.

Having read the review, the blog entry and the open letter it seems that the review has been taken completely out of context. The review gives a genuinely positive response to the performance with only slight criticism towards one of the acts. To write in the blog that we should read the review with a pinch of salt is to suggest that we should discount the review as whole which would diminish the praise that Hairline has bestowed upon the show. Hairline is a well respected publication who should not have been slated in a blog in such a manner.
