Andy Day’s popularity with the under 10’s (and their mother, for that matter) is undeniable, as he appears on stage with his comedy partner Michael James. Both wearing capes, a mask and their underwear on top of their jeans, the whole audience goes wild. They are the superstars of nappy wearing Britain.
There is a good reason for it. In their one hour show they manage to have more laughs per minute that many stand up comedians out there in the Fringe, and their antics are met with such audience participation, one wonders why others in similar jobs leave their beds in the morning.
Both Day and James are extraordinary in their silliness, taking what they call their ‘home-sitters’ (since we are meant to look after their ‘fun pad’ while they’re out), in a fun trip in search of the magic word that will open a big box sent by Andy’s mother. They do not know what lies inside it, but they are very keen to discover what it is.
While Andy Day may be the famous one out of the duo, it is fair to say that Michael James’ comedy timing, and sense of humour, plus his constant cheeky grin, steals the shows. That’s not to say that Day is no good, since he is without any shadow of doubt a master at his craft; but while Andy Day has the kids adoration from the get go, Michael James grabs the adult’s attention with his adult side-jokes, and joy de vivre.
A fantastic set design, great special effects and killer costume designs (their simplicity are loved by the tots), adds to a wonderful hour-long performance, that leaves the public in awe of two comedians at their best. Andy & Mike are wonderfully bonkers.
