Two Left Hands are comedy duo Leila Hackett and Charlotte Hudson, who’s pleasantly warped sketch show, has been giving them a great word of mouth appeal. Though quite why is a wonder. While both Hackett and Hudson are clearly accomplished comedians, making the audience politely laugh along with their light and pleasantly silly jokes and characters, they never really manage to get under your skin, instead breezing through a host of daft and random sketches that though imaginative never once raise a belly laugh.
Recurring sketches form a rough plot involving Cherie Blair taking on the personality of iconic A-Team member, Mr. T and grooming John Prescott’s wife in marketing her new hairspray that repairs the o-zone layer, to win the Nobel Peace Prize, a story that is just a bit too baffling for its own good. In between the core plot are forgettable and at times laugh free sketches about a wedding going wrong and a nature documentary film crew trying to sexually seduce a gorilla.
While it’s obvious that both women are having a whale of a time performing, their energy is both infectious and a joy to watch that they have the audience eager for them to do well but sadly they don’t quite pull it off.
Fun rather than funny, this is a frantic little sketch show that never quite hits its mark.
