Sometimes an idea is so damn appealing that you overlook its flaws. Judging by the five star reviews this show has been getting from several tabloids lately this is one production that falls into this category. Many have been blinded by the nostalgia factor to the point where they have forgotten to ask if it is any good.
For fans of the series this is a delight, as the show never misses a trick dropping in references and nods to all the iconic moments in the series, such as Mr T being drugged to get on a plane, the famous black van with a red stripe (now recreated as a card board box), Murdock’s maddening stories and of course the familiar introduction of, ‘In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit….’ a line that has many audience members standing as they applaud.
Even for those with only a vague recollection of the show they will find much to recommend as its both funny, fast paced and with some great little musical numbers, but really this show is only catering for its fan base. Over-relying on nods to the audience to get it through to a ramshackle finale that outstays its welcome ,your familiarity with the material will either have you whooping with delight blind to the so-so plot and frequent jokes that miss their mark or slightly at a loss as to what all the fuss is about.
