Zoe Lyons is one funny woman and even has a unique award to prove it, last year winning the Dave award for Funniest joke of The Festival for a cracking, remark about Amy Winehouse. This has obviously had a positive effect on Lyon’s routine who returns to the Fringe to give a brilliant hour of stand up that is full of confidence and verve.
Watching Lyons perform is a joy from start to finish. Funny, intelligent stand up that warmly pulls you into her mind set, laughing along at her self-depreciating stories about being attacked by Pam Grier, her civil partnership, her shock at opening a magazine to find she is the 81st influential gay woman in Britain… she has you by the palm of her hand before in the later sections expertly pushing the audiences button by slipping her humour into a more controversial area by making some incredibly astute and intelligent social commentary on The Pope and the hypocrisy of the Catholic church. Despite the subject matter she delivers her routine in a fun, welcoming manner that has everyone in the crowd, even those clearly ruffled with these topics, hooting with laughter.
This is a fantastic hour of great comedy, watching Lyons rattle through her clever and very funny set is a joy to watch and a pleasure to bear witness to.
