‘Relax everyone it’s Carl Donnelly’ is probably an accurate description of him and the show. In his debut year, Carl brings us his laid back approach to the Dehli Belly. His relaxed style is miles away from some of the more intense comedians at the festival.
He manages to rattle through a whole host of topics whether it’s shops he doesn’t like, getting into strangers cars and the awkwardness of one-night stands. Throughout this he never seems to break sweat and tells each joke with his chilled out manner.
One of the main strengths of the show is his audience interaction. With other comedians you feel they go through the motion when asking the audience questions. But he seems genuinely interested in what people have to say. Along with the interaction comes some of the funniest moments and his improvisation is superb.
His anecdotes and strange, but true, stories are a breath of fresh air. One of the most unique things is that he seems to be genuinely enjoying himself something that is always great to see from any performer. Also the fact that he appears to be a really down to earth guy only adds to how well the audience receives him. To sum him up he is cool, calm, collected and very very funny.
Here’s welcoming Carl Donnelly back to Edinburgh Fringe 2010.
