A very lively and enthusiastic sketch show, the LNGF gives us a chance to observe some of the finest and hottest young comedic talent at the Fringe this year. Late Night Gimp Fight pounces on you from behind then engages in an act of comedy frottage, right in your face. This is deliciously purile, full of genuinely funny and memorable scenarios. These lads are funniest when dirtiest and playing with taboos – 2 paedophiles meeting, only to realise they have been grooming each other for months – a mutual rape scene choreographed to Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse – or simply Hitler as a children’s party entertainer.
The comedy Quintet give their all in an hour of laughter that you wish would go on for twice that. Occasionally the staged in-fighting among the boys is a little fake but you forgive them as they soon have you in stitches again.
Of the five, Lee Griffiths stands out as probably having the biggest potential to go really far. All of them are talented and have their individual moments of grotesque wonder. David Moon’s nipple-twisting over-aroused geek bully is both harrowing and hilarious. Being in the audience at Late Night Gimp Fight is like the best night at the pub with your 5 funniest mates, just with gimps thrown in.
This isn’t high-brow but it is seat-wettingly funny. The only thing it will make you think about is which gimp(s) you want to take home for your very own. One thing with regards to the venue – it is packed full on the night in question and has the atmosphere of a sweat lodge. Wear light clothing.
